Students of the inaugaral class have provided feedback as they forge ahead to new horizons

“QCES provided the perfect opportunity for me to explore my passions within the
climate field from a mathematical perspective. The programme encourages close
collaboration across a wide range of interdisciplinary areas, from fluid mechanics to
chemistry fieldwork, which allowed me to broaden both my knowledge and skill set…
I would highly recommend QCES to anyone with an interest in the climate sciences,
particularly those keen to combine mathematical insight with real-world impact”.
“The fieldwork for this module was a highlight of the term”
“The coding projects were excellent and I liked that style of
assessment.”
“This module gave a good understanding of theory validation and
assessment of environmental models”
“I joined QCES wanting to understand how to use mathematics in interesting real world applications and have come away with a range of practical skills such as field work, report writing, presentation skills and data analysis as well as a new awareness of the scope of maths-related careers within environmental fields”
QCES student’s future plans include:
- PhD and Research in Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Physics and Engineering departments in research areas such as Climate modelling, Geoengineering, Palaeoclimate, Fluid dynamics, Geophysical Fluids, Environmental Science, Climate Technology, Geochemistry, Oceanography, Glaciology
- Roles with public or private employers in areas such as Environmental Engineering, Meteorology, Environmental Policy, Corporate Sustainability, Climate Data Science, Climate risk modelling
